About

Heidi Overman, LMT
In general, Massage Therapists are trained in anatomy, physiology, pathology and kinesiology. We study modalities such as Swedish, deep tissue, shiatsu, Thai, MFT, trigger points, cupping, hot stone and many more. Not all massage therapists are trained in all modalities. We choose specialties and our natural touch define what type of massage therapist we become. I am a Therapeutic Massage Therapist.
What does that mean to you?
As a therapeutic massage therapist, I am trained in many types of modalities. I am detailed oriented and work specific muscle groups, as well as using broader strokes for relaxation. Working deep into muscle tissues when necessary and applying the lightest touch as your muscle responds, is part of finding what each body part needs and what modality it will respond to. I listen to your concerns and your muscles as I work. Then we talk about your specific areas of issue, while developing an individual plan for you.
So, why do you need a massage?
Do you work in a job that you have repetitive motions?
~ Sitting at a desk all day and working on a computer?
~ Driving constantly or on airplanes?
~ Is your job physically strenuous?
~ Are you constantly stressed, fatigued, have insomnia or anxious?
~ Were you injured? Car accident? Slip or fall?
~ Are you in chronic pain and have just accepted it? Neck, low back, shoulders, legs, hands and arms
~ Do you get headaches or migraines?
~ Are you a bicyclist, golfer, tennis player, runner, athlete?
Massage is for YOU!
Some of the benefits of massage are as follows:
* Increases Range of Motion * Increase flexibility * Increases relaxation * Improves circulation * Helps removes stagnant toxins in muscles * Helps oxygenate muscles * Helps with balance and wellbeing * Improves quality of sleep * Decreases stress * Decreases anxiety * Increases energy * Increase performance * Decreases chronic pain * Increases body awareness * Lowers blood pressure * and more!
Regular massage is an essential part of your wellness and will help you as you age. It will keep your muscles from developing repetitive motion injuries and help your muscles react to a fall or other injuries in a positive way. It is important to keep your muscles pliable, flexible and healthy.
In my articles to come, I will be addressing common issues, injuries and questions, explaining different modalities and why you would need them. How massage therapy isn’t just a way to relax. Massage Therapy is therapeutic and can help you stay active and healthy.
